How do I get started?
Just call or drop by the college during business hours. We’ll talk about your previous educational experience and decide how to proceed based on your unique situation. Most students begin by taking a 30-45 minute pre-test, but this is not a requirement.

What if I don’t remember anything from school? That was twenty years ago!
You don’t have to remember everything you learned in high school. The GED tries to test how well you think about issues based on your life experience. So even if you have been out of school for a long time, you can pass this test if you study for it.

Many well-known public figures have also earned their high school diplomas by passing the GED Tests. Among them are country western singer Waylon Jennings, Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton,
comedian, actor and author Bill Cosby, actress Kelly McGillis, entrepreneur Wally Famous Amos, U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Former New Jersey Governor Jim Florio, actor and director Charles Dutton (a Maryland GED graduate) and comedian and actor Chris Rock.More than 95 percent of employers nationwide employ GED graduates on the same basis as high school graduates in terms of hiring, salary, and opportunity for advancement.
Having a GED will increase a person’s income by at least 15% over a five-year period. A person with a GED will earn $385,000 more than a person without a GED or high school diploma.

What do I need to bring with me on testing day?
Bring picture ID to verify your signature, picture and address. This is required for every testing session.
Where do go to take the test?
The test is given in Room 207, which is at the rear of the Muckleshoot Tribal College building.
What is the GED?
General Equivalency Diploma (or GED) tests are a group of five subject tests (Reading, Science, Social Studies, Math and Writing) which, when passed, certifies that the taker has American or Canadian high school-level academic skills. To pass the GED Tests and earn a GED credential, test takers must score higher than 40 percent of graduating high school seniors nationwide. Learn more about the GED.
How much does the test cost?
Each of the 5 subject area tests cost $15.00, which makes a total of $75.00. Students may pay for and take as many subject area test as they like. Retakes are $10.00. Testing fees are waived for Tribal members only after successful completion of a pre-test through our free GED Preparation program.
How long is each exam?
Language Arts - Writing
120 minutes (This is a 2 part exam)
Language Arts - Reading
65 minutes
Social Studies
70 minutes
Science
80 minutes
Math
90 minutes (This is a 2 part exam)
How do I know I’m ready to take the exam?
All individuals interested in taking the GED Exam at MTC are strongly encouraged to take advantage of our free GED Preparation Program, which typically begins with a 45 minute pretest that will provide you with a good indication of your readiness for the official exam. Todd and Kitty, our GED Instructors are available Monday through Friday in room 203 and 205.
How many times can I try to pass the exam?
For each of the 5 subject exam there are 3 official test versions published each year. Therefore, you are allowed only 3 opportunities to take each subject area exam in a 1 year period. If you do not pass an individual subject exam after 3 tries in the same year, you must wait until the following year to complete that individual subject area exam.
I’m under 19. Am I eligible to take the GED?
Individuals under the age of 19 years of age must have a “Waiver form” signed by the “boundary school district” where they last lived or currently reside. For more details, please contact your School District. This form is often called the “Request for Approval to Test -General Educational Development Diploma.” You may hand deliver the waiver to the GED Examiner on testing day.
How do I sign up to take an exam? Some paperwork is required. Please pre-register with the GED Examiner or GED Instructor. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.
What do I need to bring with me on testing day?

If you are under 19, you will need the Request for Approval to Test -General Educational Development Diploma” form from the school district where you last attended or the school disctrict where you are currently residing. Don’t forget to bring cash or money order to make payment if necessary (no checks please).
